Apple Mac Pro SMC Firmware Update für Mac

I just installed this update. Once the system restarted, I didn't see any noticeable change in system fan speeds or any new options to control fan speeds by temperature or RPM's. Question: this firmware update installs a piece of software in Applications>Utility. Why? Once the patch has been applied, is it necessary to keep this software, or can it safely be trashed?

yeah... um, I'd have to guess that the fans will make the MacBook Pro run cooler, but that would only be a guess since it doesn't actually say "what" fan behavior specifically would be modified. Cripes! A new level of vagueness. Perhaps next time they won't even mention what the update is for. Maybe next time it'll just say "Firmware." with no description at all?
